To produce a pocket spring core, springs are individually packed in fabric pockets that are joined together. The resulting pocket spring unit is cut and then glued together with other units to form a mattress core. This can be achieved by an intermittent lateral adhesive application, a cover layer gluing or a combination of both. The type of hot melt adhesive application affects the point elasticity of the pocket spring core and thus significantly influences the mattress quality.
An adhesive application system for hot melt gluing of pocket springs generally consists of an adhesive melter, a heated hose and one or two application heads. To enable you as a manufacturer to process different pocket spring heights, you need an application head with several jetting elements and application nozzles. Flexibility in adhesive application is achieved primarily thanks to two features:
Firstly. Individual control of jetting elements. This allows you to switch individual application nozzles on or off, for example, if you only need cover layer gluing. The individual control also allows the application type to be selected: adhesive-saving, intermittent bead application for lateral pocket spring gluing and/or continuous bead application for cover layer gluing.
Secondly. Angled nozzles. This type of application nozzle allows you to adjust the application angle to the respective pocket spring format. A wrench is all that is needed.
Tip: Select the application angle so that the adhesive is applied to the points where the spring touches the pocket. Thus you ensure that the correct contact pressure is achieved for a reliable bonding.
You are even more flexible with two application heads. This configuration is particularly beneficial if you are a mattress manufacturer gluing pocket spring units of different heights. The distance between the two application heads can be varied quickly and easily. This opens up more freedom for format adjustments.
With a hot melt system that enables individual control of the application nozzles, easy adjustment of the adhesive application angles and flexible height adjustment, you are ideally prepared for all trends in pocket spring core assembly. The selection of the right application head and the number of jetting elements required depends on your machine speed and your pocket spring formats. With our AX Diamond, SX Diamond and SX 1S Diamond LongLife jetting heads, Robatech provides everything you need when it comes to pocket spring mounting.
