Collaboration for sustainable packaging

In cooperation with Robatech, BVM Brunner has developed packaging machines for e-commerce packaging made from kraft paper. In this interview, Artur Neuwirt, salesperson at BVM Brunner, explains what he appreciates about the collaboration with Robatech. The video illustrates the interview and shows excerpts from the production process of the shipping packaging.


Mr. Neuwirt, you work in sales at BVM Brunner. Could you briefly introduce your company?

BVM Brunner develops and produces film packaging machines for customers in a wide range of industries. Since its foundation in 1985, the company has developed into a leading international supplier with sales companies in Germany and abroad. The focus is on the individual requirements and needs of our customers, which we constantly fulfill with new innovations, such as the user-friendly Smartdisplay. Our most recent new developments, two paper packaging systems, were also created in response to changing market requirements.

Tell us about it!

We had previously specialized in film packaging machines, but the market increasingly called for machines that pack products in pure kraft paper. End consumers now place great value on sustainable packaging materials, so many mail order companies are converting their packaging systems.
We have therefore developed two new systems for the e-commerce sector that pack smaller shipping products in 100 % pure kraft paper. On both systems, the packaging process is fully automated and produces no waste. This is a great benefit from both an ecological and an economic point of view.

How did the collaboration with Robatech begin? 

For these new developments, we obviously also needed adhesive application systems that shared the basic ecological concept of the paper packaging system. They also had to be efficient and reliable to meet our requirements. In contrast to the usual customer orders, where the customer usually determines the supplier, we could choose ourselves in this case. We knew Robatech from a previous customer project and the experience we had with them was good. We therefore asked them whether they could offer suitable adhesive application systems for the new systems. And they could – their systems perfectly met our requirements – and Robatech also helped us to find a suitable adhesive for the applications.

What was the problem there?

The search for the right adhesive turned out to be a real sticking point. During the first tests on our newly developed systems, several packages opened within a short period of time. We therefore tested several adhesives until we found the right one that actually glued the shipping bags reliably. Robatech provided us with significant support in this search, for which we are very grateful. 

Who would you recommend these systems to?

The BVM packaging machines with an adhesive application system from Robatech are ideal for all e-commerce mail order companies who want to pack smaller products either in standard bags or in fit-to-size kraft paper. With this process, large shipping boxes can be replaced by space-saving paper packaging. The reduced packaging volume in turn saves on shipping costs and delivery vehicles can be loaded more efficiently. In addition, Robatech's adhesive application systems are very energy-efficient and reliable, which means that valuable resources can also be saved here.

Let's talk about the collaboration with Robatech. How would you describe it?

We are generally very satisfied with the service, quality, speed, and availability of Robatech. This helps us in particular when developing new systems, as in the case of the paper packaging systems.  
In the current project, Robatech provided us with optimal advice beyond their own products in the search for the best adhesive and offered us the most cost-effective solution that met all our requirements.
The intensive collaboration on this project has resulted in a trusting relationship between BVM Brunner and Robatech, which we can build on in the future.
